greetings, all,

did anyone else here notice something strange in adams morgan saturday night?

i went out there with a girl in my band, and man, what a scene! there were swarms of guys everywhere, way more than usual, groping girls all over the place! i was a victim of said groping, and, well, i punched a dude (i blogged all about it).

i have been to adams morgan so many saturday nights in the past, but had never experienced anything quite like that night--random guys just coming up and touching girls like they can just do that! but i wasn't sure if it was happening because adams morgan was somehow different that night, or because i was there with another girl (usually i'm there with guy friends), or if it was because the girl and i were perceived to be lesbians, or what. it sickens me to think this could just be the way adams morgan is on saturday nights and i had never realized it before because guys don't subject girls perceived to be with guys to the same bs they subject girls whom they presume to be alone, or girl-girl couples, to. (you know, guys aren't gonna grope girls when they're with a guy, probably out of fear they'll get deservedly beat down.)

was it a fluke, or is that what i can expect next time i go out with one of my sisters? 'cause if it is, you'll never see me there again....

    hi,

i feel like i've noticed some of this kind of stuff recently on friday nights too (probably more so since i saw your post). my girlfriend and i only live a couple of blocks from the strip in adams morgan, and i dj at bossa lounge on friday nights. even though it's close, i make sure i walk her home even if it means having to leave my event for a little while -- i feel like some of the clubs are just not responsible enough about how much they let people drink in adams morgan. i make our bartenders escort wasted or rowdy people out of Bossa so we usually don't have too much static, but there are definitely places on the strip which don't really care as much i think.

on the other hand is the fact that we're one of several clubs who have contributed money to compensate for more cops to control the crowd on the weekends (the city wouldn't give us nearly enough cops, and i won't go into a diatribe about which parts of the city they're more concerned with).

i wouldn't stop coming to adams morgan -- it's where the best music and art in the city happens. but come with a group of people, or at the very least try to keep an eye on your reaction to drunk people (one guy reacted badly to a friend of his being groped on the strip back in january, and he ended up dying from his injuries). always better to have a cool head, walk on the side of the street instead of the sidewalk, and use the cops on patrol without hesitation if needed.

    peace & blessings
    v:k
